New York Legal Nurse Consultants, Inc.
New York Legal Nurse Consultants Inc. (NYLNC) is staffed with seasoned Registered Professional Nurses hand picked for their experience. The Registered Nurse Practice Act denotes a Registered Professional nurse as an educator and an advocate. The NYLNC health care professionals believe there is a need to educate the community about Advance Care Directives. The medical profession has come leaps and bounds in research to increase life expectancy. Quality of life however has not necessarily improved.
Only twenty percent of the population has advance directives. There are many initiatives to increase the amount of people discussing and writing out advance directives so that family and loved ones can carry out their wishes in the event that they are not able to make these decisions for themselves.
Filling out these forms are largely self-service. Printed material from numerous organizations is accessible and a short list of these resources is available on the NYLNC Advance Directives resource page.
The attorney drafts living wills and health care proxies. NYLNC is here to work in collaboration with private clients, attorneys and the community.
NYLNC works with clients privately to facilitate the conversation about risks and benefits of medical procedures at a time when the client will not be able to make decisions for themselves and will require a surrogate to make these decisions. The purpose of the discussion is to keep the choice in the hands of the person so that they can make medical decisions in advance and to inform a health care agent of health care wishes and medical choices in advance so that the surrogate may act in line with the clients wishes based on an understanding of this persons wishes.
NYLNC assists attorneys by working with the attorney’s client to explore health care views so that the person that would like to have a health care proxy and living will drawn up is able to communicate these wishes to their health care agent and the health care professionals caring for them.
NYLNC works with the community through community education projects to assist the community in understanding the need for advance directives.
NYLNC can translate the medical jargon to make it easy to understand. We are here to bridge the gap between the Legal System and the Health Care System.
